Sometimes (most of the time), we look to God's promises as the things we claim for our lives and completely miss what they truly represent. We get so caught up on specific things that we want or even feel that we need in our lives, that we "sweat blood" about them to the father. We beg and beg and beg and show God how He wrote a certain thing that shows that we should have this thing and that we NEED it, and perhaps it is even some thing that we truly do need for our lives to continue. But, what God showed me today is that the underlying message in His promises to us are not about the specific things so much as the factor that He is telling us that no matter what, He will be there.
He will provide for our needs, not necessarily in the way we think that those needs should be provided for. If you take that to the extreme such as a deadly need, like cancer or something, sometimes God provides for the need by taking the person home to be with him. From our mortal lives that seems like a failure to answer prayer and the end of life, but from an eternal perspective, it is actually just the beginning and they just won the jackpot. That is an extreme of what I am talking about, but you get the picture. God sometimes answers prayer with a miracle that defies earthy knowledge or laws to show THE WORLD who He is, and sometimes He answers prayer with eternal answers to show US who He is.
One of my favorite little sayings is all about coming to the edge of all the light you know and that Faith is stepping out into the darkness knowing that there will either be land beneath your feet or that you will learn to fly. What I am saying is that sometimes we, get so focused on the fact that we want everything in our lives to be good, that we forget that God will be there regardless and we may find we are walking on dry land, or we may find that we are soaring through the sky, or we may find ourselves plummeting, but God is still there and still aware of what is going on and still knows what is going to happen next. Sometimes we need to fly, to feel the touch of God, sometimes we need security of solidness beneath us to feel the touch of God, and sometimes we need to fall and be broken, to feel the touch of God.
So things not happening, the way that we think they should happen, are not God not answering our prayers, but God showing that He knows that the ball has already gone through the hoop :). He knows how the game ends and what the score was. Nothing that happens to us takes Him by surprise; therefore He has already made provisions. What we have to do, is not stop asking for God's hand in the areas of our lives that we think need help, but to ask with the understanding that regardless of what happens, God is there, and He answers the prayer with an eternal answer, that may not be the same as the immediate one.
But fly or fall, He will always be there to guide us toward the eternal and to help us overcome our mortal thoughts.
Love and Blessings
